Why am I here...?
About five years ago Hugh sold his very successful studio gym 'The Weights Room' in Wellington so that he could support his wife in her career and move the family to Auckland. Once the family settled in their new home in Devonport it came time for him to start back doing what he does best - train people.
Everything from there happened very quickly. He started running three very successful boot camp (group fitness) training squads per week. These are going really well and still run regularly at Narrow Neck beach (or in the Vauxhall School hall when it rains).
He also started working comprehensively with tennis players - first working with the Ngataranga Tennis Academy to help develop and improve the strength and speed of their young interclub players. From there he worked with top Oceania tennis player Gilles De Gouy preparing him for a Davis Cup tie in Myanmar. Following on from Gilles he began working with NZ's top ranked junior tennis player of the time, Alex Klintcharov who was preparing to go to college in the USA and eventually start playing professionally.
As a keen tennis trainer and fan, Hugh is now the trainer to NZ #1 ranked player Rubin Statham and up and coming player Macsen Sisam (who recently beat the NZ #3 in the NZ Champs). In addition to this he is heavily involved with developing programmes for a number of young future tennis stars around New Zealand.
Hugh also works with a number of other athletes including sailors, skiers, rugby players and an extremely talented young golfer.
In a slightly different role Hugh is also the specialist Goalkeeper Coach for the NZ Hockey Black Stick Men's Team. This is a follow on from his former playing days as a Black Stick and his huge passion for coaching. He is responsible for the skill and game development of our four top male keepers as they head towards the Commonwealth Games and World Cup 2018.
As you can see Hugh has a keen interest in working with athletes but alongside this loves to work with anyone trying to improve their overall fitness and strength.
To make things even better he has recently opened his second private training studio here in Devonport. The new one is tucked away in Devon Lane where he has a fully equipped training studio. Conveniently for people working with him, this also has a small number of memberships available. The new studio complements the original which is still set up at his home where he converted the double garage in to a fully professional training space.
If you are interested in working with Hugh - would like a programme or some training advice he is easily contactable - please feel free to contact him - see his details below…
